SA SDI Alliance update from CORC

The Community Organisation Resource Centre (CORC), representing the SA SDI Alliance, provides an update on two completed initiatives, namely, the TB Community Hall and “Know Your City” South Africa.

TB community hall: A foundation for community organising

The TB community hall in TB section, Khayelitsha was successfully completed on 24th of June 2017. The community held an inauguration event to launch the new structure and to show it to surrounding communities. A blog has since been written that explains important aspects of the hall development process.

 What does it mean to “Know Your City” in South Africa?

On 7 September 2017, the South African SDI Alliance co-hosted the Digital Impact World Tour with SDI and the US-based Stanford Centre for Philanthropy and Civil Society in Cape Town’s Langa township. This one-day “stop” – the eighth on the tour and the first in Africa – discussed the role of data collection in enabling social change in the digital age, and in particular the power of community-gathered data in partnerships with local governments.
