Imizamo Yethu on Fire

The disastrous fire on the 11th of March 2017 that left thousands of residents in Imizamo Yethu destitute rallied a call to action from the state, civil society and NGO’s; Ikhayalami was one such organization that rallied to the cause.

The Empower Shack Project

The Empowershack project is a collaborative design and build project coordinated between the community of BT Section, Site C Khayeltisha and Ikhayalami in partnership with ETHZ. The aim of the project is to take re-blocking to a whole new level – both spatially by going vertical and with a commitment to creating permanent footprints – all this in line with a concept termed incremental to compliance.
