CPS Seminar invitation - 20th August 2009

To Commemorate Women’s month, the Centre for Policy Studies (CPS) cordially invites you to a Seminar on 'GENDER JUSTICE AND TRADITIONAL BELIEF SYSTEMS IN AFRICA' Traditions, customs and culture are increasingly clashing with modern notions of human rights and justice in a globalising world, and Africa is not immune from these tensions between respect for culture and traditions on the one hand, and the need for safeguarding human (and in particular women’s) rights as guaranteed through modern legal and constitutional frameworks in democratic societies. Join the Centre for Policy Studies as we explore and host a thought provoking public seminar on these issues.

Presenters:

Rita Ozoemena, (Centre of Human Rights, University of Pretoria) examines gender justice and traditional belief systems in South Africa and Nigeria

Gaynor Paradza (CPS Senior Researcher) will be a discussant

Please RSVP with Naomi Moloisane: naomi@cps.org.za or +27 11 403 4001
