The Community Organisation Resource Centre (CORC) on behalf of the SA SDI Alliance provides an update on some of the Alliance’s recent activities.

Social and Physical Impact of Re-blocking: California Informal Settlement, Mfuleni (Cape Town)

Through the relevant blog, the Alliance is pleased to share the story of California informal settlement in Mfuleni, Cape Town. It is a story of many challenges, but also of many victories and hope. A story through which we begin to grasp the nuances and layers that capture the impact of re-blocking on the community. The story is told by community members, who have been engaged in struggles for basic services, land and housing since 2008.

Slum dwellers and informal workers in Latin America and South Africa

The Alliance is proud to share a short film about slum dwellers and informal workers in Latin America and South Africa. The film is a result of collaboration between the South African SDI Alliance, SDI, Cities Alliance, Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organising – WIEGO and Fundacion Avina. The primary aim of the collaboration was for urban poor organisations to exchange organising strategies, in light of the recent World Urban forum which focused on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. Covering the cities of Durban, South Africa and Bogota, Colombia, the exchanges covered in the film show that urban poor networks are essential in making the New Urban Agenda a reality.
